pureSignal wireless vibration system

Jönköping Energi put its first power plant into operation in 1907 and today they supply electricity, heating and cooling to 57,000 customers. The plant has pumping stations, cooling plants and heating plants spread over a large geographical area. Jönköping Energi started working early on with improvements to find sustainable solutions and one area was remotely monitored condition monitoring. When machine monitoring and condition measurement were done manually, there was a lot of travel between plants. In addition to being time-consuming, it also meant an unnecessary safety risk for the staff.

When monitoring the vibrations on the same machine is done continuously, continuity can also be achieved. – Now we are not blind anymore, says Ola Sjöland, maintenance manager at Jönköping Energi.

Easy to use, high quality measurement data

After evaluating various wireless systems and talking to Anton Groth at MLT, pureMEMS was chosen. There were several reasons, including the simplicity of the app, the handling of long distances and the quality of the measurement data. Everyone in the maintenance team has access to the app, which makes the work easier. Several deviations have been identified and potential errors have been fixed before they became critical. When monitoring the vibrations on the same machine is done continuously, continuity can also be achieved. – Now we are no longer blind, says Ola Sjöland, maintenance manager at Jönköping Energi.

Cloud solution with complete overview

The system from pureSignal is standalone and does not need to be integrated into the existing IT structure, another factor that facilitates implementation. A cloud solution provides a complete overview of all distributed facilities. In the future, Ola also sees value in the scalability of the system and the possibility of expanding with a condition-based lubrication system.

MLT Maskin och Laserteknik is proud to have Jönköping as one of its first customers and follows the early installation of pureMEMS at the district heating plant in Gränna, 2 2 MW boilers, almost daily. Since then, the system has been expanded to the district cooling plant in Munksjön and the pumping station at the pier in Jönköping.

Can find indications of errors early

By monitoring the pumps in the district cooling plant and finding indications of faults early, it creates direct value for the person in charge of the plant.

“There is value for me as I am the one who has to pay if something breaks. What we have installed in the cooling plant now is a first step to get a better overview,” says Bengt Johansson, plant manager at Jönköping Energi. When faults are detected in time, operating time can increase and maintenance costs can decrease.

MLT’s long-term collaboration with Jönköping Energi is based on good relationships. – Micke has helped us a lot, he’s a bit of a house elf around here! Says Ola Sjöland, referring to Mikael Larsson, application engineer and measurement technician at MLT. Jönköping has MLT’s smart agreement NiVia. It is based on them making measurements that MLT analyzes. An agreement they are very satisfied with, according to maintenance manager Ola Sjöland. In addition to continuous analyses, technical solutions and measurements, MLT has also helped Jönköping Energi with orientation and technical support.
